Import, Export and Settings¶
In the N panel, First 2 Buttons are the Export and Import Buttons, and Their Settings

Export and Import¶
Export Works only if you have an Active object, otherwise, it’s just Grayed out, add an object to your Scene to start using it
The Export Button Exports Objects From Blender to 3DSMax
if Max is already Open, The Exported objects Will be sent to it
if it’s Not open, The Export Button Will open Max with The imported Object in a New File
Import Works when 3DSMax Is open, to Get the objects From it to blender.
Note
Here I imported The camera Using alembic format first, Alembic tends to be better at importing Cameras.
Settings¶
Most Settings Work on both Blender and 3DSMax, Unified Controls
Format
You can Choose Between 3 Different Formats,
FBX, Default, reliable, Works for most cases, Exports Materials and Animations.
Alembic, Great for Animations, Cameras and Other uses of alembic format
OBJ, Great for objects with Simple Materials, High Poly count, Fast Exporting and Importing.
Attention
For Alembic and OBJ to get the objects scale Correctly, System Unit in 3dsmax Has to match blender’s, otherwise, you might Get Scale issues, if you have scenes that need Conversion, try to Merge your file in a new scene instead of opening it and auto scaling, Helps a lot!
Apply Modifiers
Apply Modifiers in blender, and Collapse Modifiers in 3DSMax Before Export or Not. it works for all 3 formats, but in blender alembic it works for a solo sub-d only.
Selection only controls whether to get your selected objects or Everything in both apps
Export animation Controls whether to export the animation data or not from both apps
Apply transform is a blender FBX specific control, it’s useful for applying transforms to objects that do not export correctly to 3dsmax, animated objects sometimes do not export correctly without it
